Webalon's founder, Alex Kearns, has worked on some of the BBC's most prestigious web projects, not least the Seven Ages of Rock site, which became a showpiece of the corporation's Web 2.0 technologies
We make games. We have experience in making all types of games. Really - absolutely everything. From football to showjumping, cars to spaceships, ninja's to pirates and everything in between. We specialise in browser based Flash apps at the moment but as gamers we are able to step, jump or fly onto any platform. We can make small, clever little games that take five minutes to play, intense hardcore arcade games that you can't stop playing or large story driven adventures with a compelling story and interesting characters. We don't make screensavers.
We are gamers. We always have been. That's why we know what makes a game fun to play. Our games start by being fun, then we make them pretty. That's the only way to do it. Any great game starts with a great idea and we have a lot of great ideas. We have experience of creating original concepts and characters but have also made some great games with other peoples' characters and intellectual property. In a cloud of media agencies, inexperienced graduates and uninspired but technically brilliant coders we stand out as a company making proper games with proper gameplay.
Making Fun Games is driven by me, Elliot Curtis. I have designed games professionally for nearly twenty years on a variety of different platforms for a lot of different publishers, including Warner Brothers, Acclaim, Capcom and Eidos. I have worked with big licenses including Taz, Resident Evil and Hitman and even Bullseye. I have also created games with real people in - notably Jeremy McGrath and Mary-Kate and Ashley.
Currently we are taking the time to make games for ourselves. Games that are solid fun to make and to play. Maybe we are indulging ourselves but we want to be doing big things. Some of the projects we are working on are the first step to defining brands. We don't want to make disposable games, we want to develop big ideas and watch them get bigger.
We want our games to spread their wings and travel, to grow and evolve, to live long and prosper. Technology changes. Trends come and go. Hardcore gamers become casual gamers. Casual gamers become hardcore gamers. But at the heart of every great game is a solid idea well realised.
If you would like us to create a game for you, then we'd love to hear from you. Drop me a line: elliot@makingfungames.com and I'll be happy to chat.
